Ontario Water Heater Replacement and Tankless Service
Ontario water heater replacement for Euclid Avenue classics and new Ontario Ranch homes. Tank and tankless service with scale plans that fit IEUA rules.
Ontario has two very different kinds of water heater jobs. In the historic core along Euclid Avenue and the older neighborhoods near downtown, homes date to the late 1800s and early 1900s or the post-war years, and heaters often live in closets or service porches that were added later. In Ontario Ranch, the master-planned community built on former dairy and farm land in the south, many homes came from the builder with tankless water heaters.
We replace failed tanks, install tankless units and help with the scale problems Ontario's hard water causes in both. Call (909) 751-2323, day or night.

What's different about water heater replacement in Ontario
Tankless homes and the softener ban
Ontario is in the Inland Empire Utilities Agency's service area, where new and replacement self-regenerating water softeners are prohibited. That matters most in Ontario Ranch, where many tankless heaters are working with hard water that leaves scale in their heat exchangers. Without a salt softener, the main protections are exchange-tank softener service and descaling at least once a year.
Builder warranties on newer homes
If your Ontario Ranch home is still under warranty, check with the builder before paying for heater repairs, since a defect may be covered. In an emergency, shut off the water and gas to the heater and call us. We can stop the damage and note the cause so you have it for the warranty claim.
Old closets, current code
Near downtown, a heater closet built decades ago may not meet current rules for combustion air, venting and clearances, and a new tank can be larger than the one it replaces. We look at the space before quoting, so there are no surprises on install day.
Hard water from either provider
The Ontario Municipal Utilities Company serves most of the city, and Cucamonga Valley Water District serves some areas. Your bill tells you which. Either way, scale shows up in tanks, tankless units and fixtures in century-old homes and brand-new ones alike.
Signs it's time to call
- Tankless error codes, or hot water that surges hot and cold
- Weak hot water flow at the shower while cold water flow is fine
- A tank in an older home that's leaking or rusting at the base
- Flakes of scale caught in faucet aerators
- A heater more than 10 years old with no flush or descale history
How we handle it in Ontario
For tankless homes, we check flow, error history and how much scale has built up, and if your unit doesn't have service valves, adding them makes yearly descaling much easier. For older homes, we look at the gas line, venting, straps and closet before recommending a tank or tankless replacement. Every installation is braced or strapped to meet California Health and Safety Code section 19211.
You'll get an up-front quote, and we'll explain which scale-control options are allowed in Ontario. Our hard water guide covers IEUA's rules, our tankless vs tank guide can help if you're deciding between the two, and our Ontario page covers plumbing across the city.
Ontario questions, answered
My Ontario Ranch tankless heater is only a few years old and already acting up. Why?+
In hard water, scale is a common cause. Minerals coat the heat exchanger, which cuts flow and can trigger error codes. Most units need descaling at least once a year. Check your builder warranty first, then have the unit descaled and looked over.
Can I add a salt softener to protect my tankless heater in Ontario?+
Not a self-regenerating one. IEUA prohibits new or replacement units in Ontario. Exchange-tank softener service is an accepted alternative, and a regular descaling routine is the other key step.
Should I keep a tank in my older Ontario home or switch to tankless?+
A tank is usually the simpler swap in an older home, since the gas line and vent are already in place. Tankless saves space and energy, but often needs a larger gas line, new venting and new mounting. We can quote both so you can compare.
