Drain Cleaning and Hydro Jetting in Riverside
Drain cleaning and hydro jetting in Riverside for root-filled clay laterals, scaled cast iron and kitchen clogs. Camera checks first. 24/7: (909) 751-2323.
Riverside's drain problems often trace back to the age of its housing. In the Wood Streets and the blocks around downtown and the Mission Inn, many homes still drain through cast iron inside the house and a clay sewer lateral out to the street, often running beneath decades-old street trees. When those lines clog, the cause is usually roots, scale or a shifted joint.
In newer areas like Orangecrest, Mission Grove and much of Canyon Crest, the plastic drain lines under slab homes rarely let roots in, so clogs there tend to come from grease, wipes and buildup in the kitchen or main line. We clear both, and we'll show you on camera which kind you have before suggesting more. See our Riverside service area page for other plumbing work in town.

What's different about drain cleaning & hydro jetting in Riverside
Clay laterals under old street trees
A clay lateral is built from short pipe sections, and every joint is a place roots can enter. In pre-war neighborhoods like the Wood Streets, roots from mature trees can fill a line until it backs up into the lowest drain in the house, which is often a tub or a floor-level shower.
Cast iron that narrows from the inside
Cast iron drains rust and build up scale along the inside wall over many decades. Its opening shrinks until grease and paper catch on the rough surface. Hydro jetting can clean off that scale, but thin or cracked cast iron needs a camera look first.
The City owns part of some laterals
According to the City of Riverside, the homeowner maintains the lateral and cleanout from the house to the property line. The City owns the lower lateral from the property line to the main, but only on laterals where a cleanout has been installed at the property line. If a licensed plumber finds the problem is in the City's section, the City asks you to call its 3-1-1 Call Center.
Signs it's time to call
- More than one drain is slow at the same time
- Water comes up in the tub or shower when a toilet is flushed
- Gurgling from drains or toilets after the washing machine empties
- Sewage smell near the cleanout or somewhere in the yard
- A clog that comes back within weeks of being snaked
How we handle it in Riverside
Many older Riverside homes have a cleanout near the foundation, and some also have one at the property line. For a single slow sink or tub, a cable snake is usually enough. For a main line packed with roots or scale, hydro jetting - a high-pressure water hose with a nozzle that sprays forward and backward - scours the full pipe wall instead of just punching a hole through the clog. Before jetting an old clay or cast iron line, we run a camera so we know the pipe can handle it.
If the camera shows broken or badly offset pipe, cleaning only buys time, and we'll explain trenchless sewer repair and other options. Our current special is a $69 snaking of one problem drain line with a free HD camera inspection of the main sewer line, done through an existing, accessible ground-level cleanout. The $69 covers the drain line only, not the main sewer line, and homes without a usable cleanout may need extra access, quoted separately. Learn more on the camera inspection page.
Riverside questions, answered
Is a sewer clog my responsibility or the City of Riverside's?+
It depends on where the blockage is. The City says homeowners maintain the lateral from the house to the property line, and the City owns the section from the property line to the main where a property-line cleanout exists. A camera inspection measures the distance to the problem, which shows whose side it's on.
Will hydro jetting damage my old clay sewer line?+
Jetting is generally safe for clay pipe in fair shape, and it's often the best way to cut roots out of the joints. But if a section is cracked, crushed or separated, high pressure can make it worse. That's why we look with a camera first on older Riverside lines and adjust the plan to what we see.
Why do the roots keep coming back after my line is cleared?+
Cleaning removes the roots inside the pipe, but the gap at the joint is still there, so they grow back. Some owners schedule regular cleaning; others repair or line the pipe so roots can't get in.
